Second Boer War, 61 albumen photographic prints, each c.140 x 190 mm., most signed 'J.E.M.' in the negative, mounted on thick card leaves, one or two prints with chipping to edges, contemporary cloth, slight staining and sunning to spine, a little rubbed, bumping to corners and extremities, oblong 8vo, c.1899-1902. *** John E. Middlebrook (1863-1943) was a leading South African commercial photographer who began his career in Kimberley. He photographed diamond fields, urban scenes and ethnographic subjects but was particularly known for his documentation of the Second Anglo-Boer War.
