Africa.- Tanzania, German Missionaries, 171 silver gelatin photographic prints, mounted on thin card leaves, many captioned by hand in German, tissue-guards (one or two detached), original decorative cloth, braid binding, slight rubbing to corners and extremities, oblong folio, c.1930s *** An album depicting the activities of the German Bethel Evangelical Mission in British Tanganyika, now Tanzania. Including images of the Bethel stations in the Usambara Mountains including the mission in Mlalo and Bumbuli, as well as images of the Kagera region, the Southern Highlands and Kilimanjaro. Many images of babies, both those the compiler had been treating and his own, and several photos towards the end of the compiler and his family on their return to Germany. An interesting pre-war snapshot.
