India.- Anglo-French War.- [Ship's Journal], c.56 pp manuscript on paper in French, extract of the journal of the French ship Annibal, evenly toned, occasional light staining, remnants of final blank, chipping and small loss to edges, stitched, unbound, 1781-84; and 4 other manuscript documents relating to French naval and land engagements on the east coast of India and the Cape Verde islands, v.s. (5) *** The journal is an excerpt of the journal of the French ship the Annibal which was launched in 1778. It covers several battles from the Anglo-French wars (1778-83) in the East Indies, including the 'Battle of Porto Praya' (Cape Verde Islands) where the ships captain, Trémignon, was killed and a series of battles were fought between the French and English fleets under the respective commands of Suffren and Admiral Sir Edward Hughes. It also includes reference to and descriptions of the battles of Sadras, Providein, Negapatam, Cuddalore and, the capture and battle of Trincomalee, as well as the manoeuvres and signals sent between ships.
