India.- Home (Robert) Select Views in Mysore, the Country of Tippoo Sultan, first edition, half-title, 29 engraved plates, folding hand-coloured map and 3 folding plans, 2 on light blue paper, one a little browned at fold, some plates with light marginal water-stain, occasional finger-soiling, uncut, later half cloth over marbled boards, rubbed, rebacked and with new endpapers, 4to, T. Bensley, 1794. *** Robert Home (1752-1834), a portrait painter, travelled to India in 1790 and followed Lord Cornwallis's army as it marched on Bangalore in the Third Anglo-Mysore War. In 1792 he met the Daniell brothers who encouraged him to paint landscapes and he spent the rest of his life in India, from 1814-27 in Lucknow as the court painter to the Nawab.
