Various authors Book dedicated to the legendary "Dux" factory—the premier aircraft manufacturer of the Russian Empire and a major Soviet aviation plant. Founded in 1893 as a bicycle and automobile maker, "Dux" (Latin for "Leader") produced over 30% of the Russian Empire's WWI air fleet next to the famous Khodynka Aerodrome. The factory built famous licensed French aircraft (Nieuport 11/17/21, Farman, Voisin) flown by Imperial WWI aces, alongside its own original Meller aircraft series. Nationalized in 1918 as State Aircraft Factory No. 1 (GAZ No. 1), the facility later produced iconic early Soviet fighters, including Nikolai Polikarpov's famous I-15 and I-16. An invaluable primary-source reference for collectors of early military aviation, WWI air warfare, and Imperial/Soviet air force history.
