P.N. 22.I.1942."A submariner like the author, Dunbar-Nasmith received the VC during the First World War for attacking Turkish naval forces in the Sea of Marmara. He was promoted to rear-admiral in 1928 - the first submariner to reach flag rank - and vice-admiral in 1932, the same year that he became Commander-in-Chief, East Indies. During the Second World War, he served as Commander-in-Chief Western Approaches and then as flag officer in charge, London."The author was a midshipman aboard Orzel during her escape. This book is mainly concerned with the tale of a war patrol off Norway during the German invasion in April 1940" (Law).
