These two volumes, Finishing the Hat and Look, I Made a Hat, comprise the complete collected lyrics of legendary composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim. Together, they offer a master class in musical theater, featuring not just lyrics but also Sondheim's "Attendant Comments," principles, anecdotes, and technical dissections of his own work. Finishing the Hat (2010): Covers the first half of his career (1954–1981), including iconic shows like West Side Story, Gypsy, Company, Follies, and Sweeney Todd. Look, I Made a Hat (2011): Picks up from 1981 to 2011, detailing works such as Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, Assassins, and Passion. It also includes lyrics for television, film, and "orphan songs". NOTE: The two hardcovers were released together in a specially designed slipcase called the Hat Box.
