First edition, number 610 of 1,200 copies, reproducing artwork secretly produced in concentration camps.The artist Edmund Goergen was captured while working for the Luxembourg Intelligence with the resistance movement. "He was condemned to death, but instead spent three tortured years at the camps of Hinzert and Mauthausen. His illegal drawings were completed with pencil stubs on scraps of paper, although he did one official portrait for an SS-man at Mauthausen. His works show the stone steps, cadavers, tortures, and prisoners of Mauthausen. He hid his sketches under his bed and saved them when Mauthausen was liberated by the Americans" (Blatter p. 248).Many of the original drawings were acquired by the war museum in Paris.
