Extracts from the Treaties Between Great-Britain and Other Kingdoms and States of such Articles as Relate to the Duty and Conduct of the Commanders, of His Majesty's Ships of War. First combined edition, with the signature of Henry Digby to the front pastedown. Digby commanded HMS Africa at the Battle of Trafalgar, attacking the French and Spanish fleets against Nelson's orders. We have only traced two complete copies, at All Souls College and the Huntington Library.Gostling was a highly prosperous lawyer, holding considerable estates at Whitton Park in Twickenham, and served as Admiralty Proctor. The first work in this volume contains updated information on treaties with France, Spain, the Austrian Netherlands, Russia, and America. The second work concerns treaties with several northern European states. The final work, A Convention Between His Britannick Majesty and the King of Sweden, details a neutrality agreement between the two countries as Britain declared war on France in 1803. Sweden would enter the conflict in 1805 in the Pomeranian War.Each of these works were published separately, the first in 1792 and the latter two in 1803. This combined edition contains all three works with continuous pagination and register. The 1792 edition of the first work included an engraved frontispiece, headpiece, and tailpiece which do not appear in this combined edition.
