First edition, inscribed on the title page by Bobby Seale to collector Rick Synchef and signed by the defendants Tom Hayden and Abbie Hoffman, the members of the defence team William Kunstler and Leonard Weinglass, the publisher Lawrence Ferlinghetti, and the witnesses Allen Ginsberg and Paul Krassner, the latter of whom has signed as "Paul (I took acid at the trial before I testified) Krassner".This work is a verbatim transcript of Ginsberg's testimony as witness for the defendants at the "Chicago Seven" trial in 1969, following the arrest of Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, David Dellinger, Tom Hayden, Rennie Davis, John Froines, and Lee Weiner for organizing the anti-Vietnam protests at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Many figures of the cultural left were called upon as witnesses and Ginsberg in particular baffled the courtroom with his poetic recitals and "Om" chanting.
