Large blueprint map. A blueprint Arabic map of the oil industry in Kuwait, one of several produced every year by the Kuwait Oil Company before its nationalization in 1975. The map itself illustrates Kuwait c.1958, marking the Sabriya well discovered in 1957, but not yet the Minagish well, discovered in 1959. This is a reproduction c.1990 for internal use, likely retrieved from the archives during the oil crisis. The map shows the Kuwaiti borders with Saudi Arabia and Iraq, as well as the neutral zones which lasted until 1970. It also provides detailed information on current oil infrastructure, such as wells, pipelines, and oilfields, as well as roads, water wells, and major cities. We have traced a dozen institutional examples of such reproductions for internal use, made in the 1950s and 1960s, none matching the present for scale or year of production.
