Al-Manzhūr al-islāmī li-l-tanmīah al-'imrānīah. First edition of this well-illustrated study of urban development and planning in the Islamic world. We have traced no institutional copies outside the Middle East. In 1980, Abdul-Baki Ibrahim established, in Egypt, the Center of Planning and Architectural Studies (CPAS), the first of its kind in the Arab world. This study was born out of the integrated CPAS approach blending traditional Arab architecture with advanced technologies for sustainability and efficiency. It introduces the Islamic perspective on urban planning in relation to the western perspective, describing the state of the art and recent innovations. It then provides historic and current examples of city planning in the west, such as the Melbourne railway of Ebenezer Ward in Australia, and in the Islamic world, with detailed plans including those of 17th-century Aleppo, Mecca and Medina at the time of the Prophet Muhammad, and the modern Egyptian industrial city of al-Ubur.
