Delta Barrages. First edition of this well-illustrated booklet on delta barrages - a type of dam first developed in the 1830s to improve the irrigation of Lower Egypt. It was produced by the National Committee for Irrigation, Drainage and Grand Barrages for its 30th executive meeting in Cairo. We have traced no institutional copies. It presents an overview of the history of Egyptian delta barrages and of the more recent barrages built in 1936-39. The photographic images provide aerial views of the barrages and close-ups of the structures near Rosetta and Damietta. The plans and elevations show the barrages before and after the restructuring work, which was required due to the heightening of the Aswan Reservoirs in the 1950s.
