Jame Agee prose poem, "Knoxville: Summer 1915". Caliban Press edition, 1986. Press run limited to 125 copies; this copy is #50. 6.5" wide x 9" high. Near-fine condition; slight staining on front cover, otherwise unmarked. Spine is unscuffed black leather, which appears shiny in photographs. Agee originally wrote this piece in 1938 in the voice of a child in Knoxville, Tennessee, where he grew up. Agee's father died in 1916 when he was five years old. "Knoxville: Summer 1915" later became an italicized preface to his novel A Death in the Family. In 1947 it became the text for a Samuel Barber work for voice and orchestra, which premiered in 1948.
