About the Book: Published by Aperture in 2013 to coincide with the 55th Venice Biennale, The Enclave is an incredibly scarce monograph limited to a total print run of just 1,000 copies. The book is the culmination of Mosse's multi-year project documenting civil war and factional conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. To break away from traditional conflict photography, Mosse used Kodak Aerochrome—a discontinued military surveillance film designed to spot hidden targets. The infrared film registers invisible light, violently shifting the jungle landscape into beautiful, surreal hues of hot pink, crimson, and lavender. The final result creates an unsettling contrast between beautiful colors and the harsh realities of war.
