La cause Arabe de Palestine. First edition of this scarce pamphlet published by the Arab Higher Committee, representing Palestinian Arabs at an international level. We have traced four institutional copies. The work examines the historical roots of Palestinian resistance and the fight for independence, beginning with the First World War, when it was considered part of Greater Syria. The Balfour Declaration is described as the British government's betrayal of the "engagement d'honneur" and a "parjure" of the territorial concessions made to Hussein, King of Hijaz, by Col. McMahon in 1915. The work proceeds to undermine the founding principles of the declaration, from the heterogeneous character of the Jewish settlers, united by the Zionist ideal, to their alleged right over Palestine on the basis of ancient claims, while accusing the British government of "ignoring the realities" in Palestine. It then analyses the British Mandate, seen as part of the Jewish settlers' programme, as well as the various phases of Arab-Israeli relations up to the late 1940s, including the pro-Palestinian efforts of the Arab League and the United Nations.
