El Topo. Fabula pánica con imágenes. First edition of the screenplay for Jodorowsky's breakout film, inscribed by him and with an original ink drawing on the front free endpaper, "Para Helen y Fernando, amistad de antaño, con ternura Jodorowsky, '80". The recipient was the Mexican producer and director Juan Fernando Perez-Gavilan (b. 1937); Helen remains elusive. This cult classic "acid Western" kicked off the trend for midnight screenings and had a pantheon of celebrity fans, including John Lennon, who would help distribute this film and Jodorowsky's next feature, The Holy Mountain. "I wanted to do an image that a person will never forget in his life," said Jodorowsky, "to create mental change. To reach a state of enlightenment. This is LSD without LSD" (Ivan-Zadeh).
