Exhibition catalog for John Graham 1881-1961 Drawings, held at Andre Emmerich Gallery, New York, October 14–November 23, 1985. First edition. Twenty-three color plates. Graham was a pivotal transitional figure in American modernism — Russian-born, he arrived in New York in 1920 carrying firsthand knowledge of the European avant-garde, and in 1942 curated a landmark exhibition featuring Willem de Kooning, Jackson Pollock, and Lee Krasner, helping lay groundwork for what became Abstract Expressionism. He was closely associated with Arshile Gorky and de Kooning, and his paintings have brought six-figure prices at major auction houses.
