JAZZ magazine - a spirited souvenir of a teenage British jazzman's wartime trips to New York. In relic condition, but a superb piece thrumming with enthusiasm. A souvenir assembled by Eric Lister, at the time an 18 year-old merchant seaman, through several visits to New York on Atlantic convoy duty; chronicling through autographs, annotations, and ephemera encounters with his jazz heroes on their home territory. Crammed in a pocket and carried on his late-night rounds of the clubs, inevitably battered but all the more evocative for that.A single issue of this short-lived and rare "fanzine" - editorial advisers including John Hammond, William Russell and Frederic Ramsay, Timme Rosenkrantz, and Art Hodes - Volume I, No. 3, annotated inside the wrap, "On the opposite page are autographs of various jazz personalities I saw on my first visit to New York, 5/1/44 all between 6 P.M. of the 5th & 4 A.M. of the 6th. At the following places - Nicks, Kelly's Stables, Onyx Club, Three Deuces, Commodore Music Shop, Hickory House", on the facing page are 16 signatures including those of of Dizzy Gillespie, Ben Webster, Eddie Condon, Pee Wee Russell - Lister's hero, Wilbur de Paris - Slam Stewart, and Miff Mole.
