1901 OUR COUNTRY — HENRY DAVENPORT NORTHROP Antique illustrated American history volume, Our Country: Being a Standard History of the United States and Island Possessions, by Henry Davenport Northrop. Published by American Historical Press, New York, Chicago and San Francisco, circa 1901. This substantial turn-of-the-century history covers America from the discovery and exploration of the continent through the American Revolution, War of 1812, Mexican War, Civil War, Spanish-American War and the expansion of the United States and its island possessions. The title page states that the book is “Embellished With Nearly 500 Superb Engravings.” It contains numerous historical illustrations, including impressive full-page engravings such as the pictured Commodore Perry at the Battle on Lake Erie. An ornate presentation page near the front is handwritten “Presented to Dana Hope.” CONDITION This is an original antique book showing considerable age and use. The hardcover boards have heavy rubbing and wear, particularly around the edges and corners. There is substantial exterior wear with areas of exposed board/material, and the spine/binding area shows significant age-related deterioration. Interior pages show age-related toning and wear. The illustrated pages shown remain attractive. Please examine all photographs carefully. They are an important part of the condition description.
