First edition of this unusual work detailing triad dress, initiations, secret signs, flags, seals, and other paraphernalia, based on information obtained during police interviews with high-ranking informants.In the 1950s, Hong Kong witnessed a resurgence in triad activity, and this threatened the already delicate fabric of British control. Beginning in 1956, the Hong Kong Police Force led a number of raids on secret societies and arrested prominent officials, some of whom subsequently turned state's evidence. William P. Morgan (b. 1922), a detective sub-inspector in the Triad Societies Bureau of the Criminal Investigation Branch, used these insiders, together with documents accumulated since the restoration of British control in 1945, to produce this guide to aid ongoing anti-triad operations.
