A handsome and highly collectible 1987 Folio Society edition of The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, featuring an introduction by celebrated crime writer and critic Julian Symons and striking original linocut illustrations by Edward Bawden. This is the first Folio Society edition and first Edward Bawden illustrated edition, published in London in 1987. One of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's most famous Sherlock Holmes novels, The Hound of the Baskervilles combines detective fiction, Gothic atmosphere and mystery against the haunting landscape of Dartmoor. This beautifully produced Folio Society edition is especially desirable for Edward Bawden's bold black-and-white artwork. The book is bound in black decorated cloth with yellow spine lettering, with dramatic yellow and white pictorial decoration to the covers. It is accompanied by its original cream cloth-effect slipcase. Inside are six Edward Bawden linocuts, comprising an illustrated frontispiece and five additional black-and-white plates.
