MABBUT, George.
Inquire · Offered by Peter Harrington
A True estimate Of the Value of Leasehold Estates, and of Annuities and Reversions for Lives and Years. First edition of these two works exploring the Church of England's efforts to efficientize its land holdings by exploiting the development of mathematical tables for calculating leases and interest. George Mabbutt (dates unknown), was apparently the manciple of King's College, Cambridge, during Newton's time at Trinity College. Newton seemingly rated Mabbut's mathematical capabilities highly, as he provided an academic recommendation which caused the work to be mistaken as his own for many years.
