Verses Written for Mrs Daniel. First edition, number 187 of 300 copies, of the Poet Laureate's "most amusing mock-heroic poem" addressed to Mrs Emily Daniel in memory of war-work undertaken during the First World War.The loosely inserted letter is a response to a "delightful letter of sympathy" on the death of Emily Daniel. The classicist Rev. Charles Henry Olive Daniel (1836-1919) was Provost of Worcester College Oxford from 1903 and founder of the private Daniel Press. He was married to Emily Daniel (née Olive) (1853-1933). The Daniels had two daughters: Rachel and Ruth (1884-1961?) The letter is by Ruth who writes of her mother, notes that she is to assemble a "little exhibition" of Emily Daniel's needlework and bookbinding sketches, and asks "have you any binding of hers that you would lend me for the exhibition? Perhaps your Daniel Press books were not bound by her". Ruth also states that "the Dean of Worcester College has bound in an exquisite binding for me all Mr Bridges' letters to my father. They make such a very interesting volume".
