First edition of this early survey of the British stock market, by a teacher whose profession it was "to qualify young People for Merchandising or Trade" (p. [vii]).Little is known for certain of Richard Hayes's life, but his joint work as a merchant teacher and a semi-professional accountant are often cited as an example of the origins of modern professional accounting in trade instruction. A contemporary annotation on the advertisement page records Hayes's move to Eastcheap on Cannon Street.
