Probyn's Horse News Letter. 1941 to 1946; [together with:] 1946 to 1947. Rare, untraced among institutional libraries. These comprise the final two issues of the newsletter published before the regiment was transferred to the Pakistan Army in 1947. Perkins lists no official histories published after 1945, making this the final record of the Probyn's Horse while still in existed.These issues were owned by Harold Ivan Edward Richard Charles Stewart, MC (1920-2020). Stewart joined Probyn's Horse as a lieutenant in 1939, was awarded the Military Cross in 1945 when commanding B Squadron in Burma, and retired as an honorary major in 1948. According to the 1947 issue, he also spent a small period in South Africa, where he "motored 13000 miles and had a most interesting time" (p. 13). His ownership inscription is on the front pastedown.The newsletters feature a history of the regiment from 1941 to 1947, rolls of its officers and ranks, records of training, and reports on the rearing of their horses at the "Probynabad Stud Farm". This period was one of great change, as the regiment was converted to a mechanized unit in 1940 and spent the following four years in familiarization training. It also participated in the closing stages of the Burma Campaign, was stationed at Imphal in October 1944, fought with the 255th Indian Tank Brigade at the Battle of Meiktila, and supported the all-arms attack on the Japanese position at Payagyi in April 1945.By 1947 this newsletter was being distribut
