Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? First edition, signed and dated by the author on the dedication page, "Edward Albee, December 5, 1962". The play premiered on Broadway at the Billy Rose Theatre just six weeks before, on 13 October 1962. It won the Tony Award for Best Play and was selected for the 1963 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, but the advisory board objected to its profanity and sexual themes and overruled the jury, awarding no prize that year.A film adaptation, directed by Mike Nichols and starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, was released in 1966.
