Original artwork for "Erroll Garner at Storyville". Eye-catching artwork, apparently unpublished, perhaps intended for an album cover. It combines images cut from a 1957 issue of Esquire (a Leonard Feather interview with Nat King Cole) and original line drawing in the style of David Stone Martin or the elusive C. Danest, who used montage and, on occasion, the same clotted line, working extensively for French label Vogue.During the 1950s Garner (1926-1977) played several residencies at George Wein's Storyville club in Boston (of which bootlegs from airshots have been issued), so this may be prospective work for a poster. "Erroll Garner was one of a kind. He was as outré as the great beboppers, yet bop was alien to him, even though he recorded with Charlie Parker. He swung mightily, yet he stood outside the swing tradition; he played orchestrally, and his style was swooningly romantic, yet he could be as merciless on a tune as Fats Waller … His tumbling, percussive, humorous style was entirely his own" (Cook & Morton, p. 480).
