The Normans are Coming! The Truth about 1066; [together with] -- Into the Under World. First editions, presentation copies, inscribed by the author to Raymond Briggs. The Normans are Coming reads "To Raymond, whose regard for our Medieval Heritage was an inspiration, Gillian", and Into the Under World "For Raymond, with best wishes from Gillian, 1999".Each book is accompanied by an autograph letter from Clements to Briggs discussing the books. The letter accompanying Into the Under World, states "thought I'd better send this to prove I still worked a bit, and to help fill up all those nice bookshelves you've got". Also included is an autograph postcard of All Saint's Church, Hereford, and two leaflets for the café of the same church.Briggs was Clements's tutor at the Brighton School of Art, where he taught from 1961 to 1986. They remained close friends after her graduation, with Clements writing about her plans to visit him and return to "the old place". The Normans are Coming! was Clements's first book, which she sent to Briggs five days before publication, commenting "here it is, you asked for it. Remember, it is a first book; I can only improve". Into the Under World, her eighth book, marked a change from her previous works. Her letter states "this isn't exactly a non-fiction tome as per usual, but one of Walker's last picture books... if the maze doesn't do your head in, you might learn something".The posthumous book label of Briggs (1934-2022), illustrator, graphic novel
