A collection of six books presented to Raymond Briggs. Presentation copies, all inscribed with playful messages from the author to Raymond Briggs ("To Ray - one of my greatest fans. Don't feel discouraged, think of this more as a standard to attain", etc.). The books are all first editions, first impressions, other than Grey Rabbit. This book was first published in 1994, with this edition published in 1998.Baker (born 1951) is an award-winning illustrator, who has written and illustrated over 40 books. Briggs was one of Baker's tutors at Brighton School of Art in the early 1970s. They remained close friends until Briggs's death and shared a similar sense of humour. On significant birthdays, they exchanged life-sized "bad taste" papier-mâché effigies of each other. On his death, Briggs gave everything to charity "except for the effigies, which, as a final joke" were left to Baker, who burned them as a final memorial (The Times).The posthumous book label of Briggs (1934-2022), illustrator, graphic novelist, cartoonist, and author, is in each book. The winner of numerous awards, including the Kate Greenaway Medal (twice), the Hans Christian Andersen Award, the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award, and the Kurt Maschler Award, Briggs noted that "the whole point of illustration is that it is literary. If it is not, it remains a drawing only... Something must be 'going on' in the illustration" (Horne, p. 124). He is chiefly remembered for Father Christmas (1973), Fungus the Bogeyman (1978)
