The French painter Lucien Jonas (1880-1947), “attaché au Musée de l’Armée”, was one of the most prolific military artists of World War I. He served for most of the war on the front lines and produced countless portraits of soldiers as well as landscapes of military scenes. The present facsimile of his work comprises, among other reproductions: 9 portraits of English soldiers; 24 portraits of soldiers serving “chez les Indiens” (only a few of the portraits depict Indian soldiers); and 8 portraits of military interpreters.
