The Poetical Works of John Keats.

£180 · Offered by Shapero Rare Books

A fine collection of Keats' most endearing poetical works, including Isabella, or the Pot of Basil, The Eve of St. Agnes, Lamia, and Endymion. Alongside a supplementary memoir of the poet by Richard Monckton Milnes, this edition is wonderfully illustrated by George Scharf, an art critic, illustrator, and director of the National Portrait Gallery. It features numerous full page illustrations, as well as an array of wildflowers dotted throughout the text - an homage to the poets fondness for them. Royal 8vo (25 x 19.5), frontispiece illustration in black and white, tissue guard, with numerous black and white illustrations adorning the poems throughout, damp-staining to prelims, minor spotting throughout, otherwise very good internally; full brown morocco, thin serrated and solid fillets in gilt, corner-pieces decorated in gilt, spine lettered and decorated in gilt in 6 compartments, with raised bands, inside edges ruled in gilt, wear to extremities, corners rubbed, spine slightly chipped and frayed, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, very good; xl, 375 pp.
