The Dusun of the Penampang Plains in North Borneo. First edition, one of 80 copies only, the copy of Sir Gerald Whitely, a senior member of the Colonial Office's South-East Asia department, with his ownership signature on the front cover.Glyn-Jones, a Cambridge postgraduate, conducted fieldwork among the Dusun in Inobong between November 1949 and August 1951, her research funded by the Colonial Social Science Research Council. "The investigation was to cover the physical environment, occupation and mode of life, structure of population, social systems, statistics of economy and historical background of the community" (preface). She submitted recommendations, based on her findings, to North Borneo's colonial administration.The preface is signed December 1953, but the printer's slug confirms that copies were not printed until March 1955.
