This volume includes portraits of the 12 German composers judged most influential by the 19th century, along with concise German-language biographies of each. The portraits are photographic reproductions of bust-length paintings by Dr. Carl Jaeger, whose representations became iconic, especially for those composers who died before the era of photography. This volume is the 2nd edition of this important work, published around 1875. The condition of the hardcover binding is poor; however, the portrait images insider are in very good condition.
