El Topo. First edition of the screenplay of the cult classic "acid Western", inscribed by the writer-director on the title page, "Para Marco! Jodorowsky". The film kicked off the trend for midnight screenings and had a pantheon of celebrity fans, including John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Bob Dylan, and David Lynch."I wanted to do an image that a person will never forget in his life," Jodorowsky later explained. "To create mental change. To reach a state of enlightenment. This is LSD without LSD" (quoted by Ivan-Zadeh). The subsequent psychedelic spaghetti Western is "a heady, arguably at times unwatchable, brew of Chinese philosophy, Zen Buddhism, astrology, Sufism, European surrealism, the Kabbalah and, above all, the tarot... as with the intuitive meanings of tarot, you have to tune in or drop out" (ibid.).
