The Broadway production opened on 5 May 1955 and the West End production opened at the London Coliseum on 28 March 1957. Both featured choreography by Bob Fosse.The script provides some detailed insights into the West End production and comprises title page, running order (1 page), cast (1 page), script of Act 1 (93 pages), script of Act 2 (40 pages), artistes' scene plot (7 pages), understudy list (1 page), wardrobe plot (48 pages), running times of scenes (2 pages), cue sheet and lighting plot (15 pages), "Lime Plots" (13 pages, omitting opening pages of No 3 Lamp and No 4 Lamp plots), property plot (7 pages), hanging plot (1 page), and inventory of scenery, draperies and stage equipment (6 pages).Given the mixture of top and carbon copies, frequent typing mistakes, and the lack of any typing or mimeograph agency information, it is thought that the entire script was one of a small number of copies for the technical crew. The script includes specific staging and technical directions, including an account of Fosse's choreography ("R. hand melts down, tap head twice", "Point L. hand down on 'one'", "clasp hands low in front", etc.).
