The Broadway production opened on 13 May 1954 and the West End production opened at the London Coliseum on 13 October 1955. Both productions were the first to feature choreography by Bob Fosse.The script provides some detailed insights into the West End production and comprises title page, Running Order (1 page), Cast (1 page), script of Act 1 (73 pages), Act 2 (62 pages), "Lime Plots" (for four lamps) (17 pages), Lighting Plot (10 pages), Cue Sheets (12 pages), Property Plot (9 pages), Wardrobe Plot (51 pages), Understudy List (1 page), Artistes' Scene Plot (7 pages), Portal Panels Plot (3 pages), Running Times of scenes (1 page), and Hanging Plot (1 page). In addition, "Inventory of Scenery, Draperies and Stage Equipment" (4 pages), and "Inventory of Electrical Equipment" (3 pages).Given the mixture of top and carbon copies, frequent typing mistakes, and the lack of any typing or mimeograph agency information, it is thought that the entire script was one of a small number of copies for the technical crew.
