SPECIAL: Author wrote "23 of 210" and SIGNED on the front flyleaf. Synopsis: Historical fiction about the West Virginia coal fields during the turbulent 1920s and 1930s, a time of bitter conflicts between mine operators and miners attempting to form a union. The protagonist is a miner who began work in the mines at age thirteen and the story follows him through two violent skirmishes (historically known as the Massacre at Matewan and the Battle of Blair Mountain).
