1863 Book of Psalms American Bible Society - Golden Wedding Gift - Civil War Era
$80 · Offered by eBay
Antique The Book of Psalms, published in New York by the American Bible Society in 1863, during the Civil War era. Large-format edition translated from the original Hebrew with former translations compared and revised. Especially interesting is the handwritten presentation inscription to Mrs. Deborah Flint, given as a present at her Golden Wedding by her friend and pastor, A. P. Marvin. It includes Psalm 19:10, “More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold,” along with additional period family names/signatures including Mary Flint Forristall and others. Original black binding with gilt “Book of Psalms” lettering. The volume shows substantial age-related wear, staining/water damage, edge wear and binding deterioration as photographed. A fascinating 160+ year-old religious volume with strong family-history character.
