The scarcer of Emily Eden's (1797-1869) two travel accounts, in the form of letters to her British and Indian correspondents. Edited by her niece Eleanor Lena Eden after her death. This work is a supplementary collection of letters which covers the same time frame as Eden's famous 'Up the Country', rather than being a direct sequel. Eden describes the death of Kharak Singh and his son Nau Nihal Singh, including the cover up of 'twelve hours' whilst 'our friend' Sher Singh was installed. She also recounts her meeting with the Begum of Mysore, who predicted the British conquest of the Punjab, and includes further descriptions of Dost Mohammed and the infamous retreat from Kabul.
