Quotations From Chairman Mao Tse-tung [Bilingual edition]. First edition of this Chinese-English edition of the "Little Red Book", produced by a publisher forced to adapt to the Cultural Revolution's charged political atmosphere. It incorporates the 33-chapter Chinese text and the 1967 second English translation. This edition was compiled by Dongfanghong chubanshe ("The East is Red Press"), the Cultural Revolution-era reincarnation of the Commercial Press. Founded in 1897 in Shanghai, Commercial specialized in producing bilingual editions of fiction and non-fiction works, as well as textbooks for language learning. After the Cultural Revolution began, however, Commercial's associations with the disgraced publishing old guard placed its staff in significant political jeopardy. In Beijing, Red Guards took down and smashed its sign, denounced its leadership, and changed its name.
