The author declared that the nature of the women's suffrage campaign counterproductively proved that "women are ignorant of the nature and functions of Government, and are therefore inadequate to the task of undertaking it" (p. 1). The article was first printed in the November 1908 issue of conservative National Review magazine.Mary Ivor Maxse (1870-1944) was an anti-suffragist, protectionist, and imperialist, who promoted Tory politics throughout the early 20th century.
