The Society of Friends and the Women's Movement. A pamphlet issued by the Friends' Committee on Women's Suffrage, which sets out the Quaker stance on the suffrage movement. It begins with an overview of the history of gender egalitarianism in the Quaker church and proceeds to emphasize the importance of supporting the contemporary women's movement.Even in the early days of Quakerism, Friends' views on women were progressive. Female Friends were considered spiritually equal to the men and, in contrast to many other Protestant denominations, they were allowed to publicly speak and preach.
