FORTUNE, Dion.
Inquire · Offered by Peter Harrington
The Cosmic Doctrine. First edition of this posthumously published summary of mystical teachings "received" by Fortune. It is the best-known of her mediumistic manuscripts and is a foundational text for students of the occult.Through her pragmatic and commonplace style, Fortune (1890-1946) - born Violet Mary Firth - wove occult practice into the life of ordinary readers, making the arcane accessible. In addition to her practical works, Fortune wrote mystical works of fiction interlaced in a deliberately didactic manner with her occult theories, giving them what she termed an "initiatory" quality. Her occult society, and the publishers of this work, the Inner Light, was founded in 1924 and provided training in occult rituals, most famously utilized during the Second World War when they launched a "Magical Battle of Britain".
