Mystical Meditations on the Collects. First edition, in an uncommonly bright example of the jacket. Based on an esoteric interpretation of Christian scripture, the work provides a series of occult views on prayer and the mystical nature of Jesus. The pragmatic and commonplace style of Violet Mary Firth (1890-1946), known as Dion Fortune, allowed her to weave occult practice into the warp and weft of the life of ordinary readers. Her occult society, the Fraternity of the Inner Light, founded in 1924, provided training in occult rituals. She studied psychotherapy at the University of London before the outbreak of the First World War and often combined ritual magic with psychoanalysis. Provenance: Eya Fechin (1914-2002), Russian dancer, model, psychiatrist, and art therapist, with her ownership inscription on the first blank. Fortune's exploration of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, reflected in this work's treatment of consciousness, parallels Fechin's own interests. Fechins's first husband Dane Rudhyar, an astrologer associated with Theosophy, was highly regarded by Fortune, and the two referenced one another in their writings although never directly collaborated.
