The Female's Encyclopaedia was published anonymously by a woman and the sketches provided by Matthew Urlwin Sears (1800-1870).The work has sections on everything from emotion and morality to the properties of various meat and fish, and from the duties of servants and wives to a recipe on how to "destroy bugs", which includes red lead as its main ingredient.
