In Person: Intermedia & Environments, Etc. A flyer for a talk by cultural impresario John Brockman and poet Gerd Stern, held at the Poetry Center in New York as part of Brockman's Festival for New York State. The festival ran for two months and saw artists present installations at 12 different art institutions, including MoMA and the Brooklyn Academy of Music.Brockman also used this image of his face to advertise the Monkee's film Head, released earlier the same month. He and Stern (the first person to get Allen Ginsberg high) were consultants for the film, and while "the Monkees were not exactly what we thought of as our kind of culture... they brought us out and paid us royally" (Stern, quoted from Edge, John Brockman's online digital archive). Brockman was described by Stewart Brand as an "intellectual enzyme" (quoted by Naughton). He spent the sixties and seventies hanging around Andy Warhol's Factory and the collectivist art scenes of New York, and has since made a name for himself as a celebrated literary agent for scientists, inventors, and prominent thinkers, including Richard Dawkins, Craig Venter, Stewart Brand, Steven Pinker, George Lakoff, Nick Humphrey, and Richard Thaler.
