Dowd and his imaginary friend, a púca resembling a tall, white rabbit.The play premiered on Broadway on 1 November 1944, running for 1,775 performances. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama the following year and was adapted into a film in 1950, starring James Stewart. This trade edition was preceded by an acting edition, issued in small numbers in 1944.Provenance: Clive Hirschhorn (b. 1940), the film and theatre critic for the Sunday Express for over three decades, with his 1992 ownership inscription on the front pastedown.
