An exceptionally rare early production state of William Gibson's second novel, preceding publication of the first edition. Printed in blue card wrappers with a black plastic spine, this unusual oblong proof measures approximately 8" x 12" and was produced by Rowlands Phototypesetting for the use of the author and Gollancz's editorial staff. Believed to be one of only three or four copies produced. The proof contains numerous holograph typesetting notes and corrections in blue and red ink, making it an especially revealing production artifact documenting the preparation of one of the seminal novels of cyberpunk fiction. 269 pages. Count Zero is the second novel in Gibson's landmark Sprawl trilogy, following Neuromancer, his breakthrough novel that won the Hugo, Nebula, and Philip K. Dick Awards. Count Zero was subsequently nominated for the 1987 Hugo Award for Best Novel, the 1986 Nebula Award for Best Novel (presented in 1987), the 1987 Locus Award for Best Science Fiction Novel, where it placed third, and the British Science Fiction Association Award. A remarkably scarce proof copy, of particular interest to collectors of William Gibson, cyberpunk literature, modern science fiction, and publishing history.
