OZ Magazine No. 45 – November 1972 – John Hurford cover artwork. Original issue of the influential British underground magazine OZ, published in November 1972 towards the end of the magazine’s remarkable run. A particularly visually striking issue, with an elaborate psychedelic cover by John Hurford, one of the artists closely associated with the British psychedelic and countercultural scene of the late 1960s and early 1970s. The issue contains the characteristic mixture of radical journalism, satire, alternative culture, politics, sexuality and experimental graphic design for which OZ became famous. Particularly notable is the spectacular full-colour psychedelic centrespread, which survives complete and displays extremely well. The rear cover carries a wonderful full-page period advertisement for Dracula, the New English Library fortnightly magazine of fantasy, horror and science fiction — another excellent piece of early-1970s graphic design in its own right. An increasingly collectible original example of British underground publishing, with particular appeal to collectors of psychedelic art, counterculture, alternative press and 1960s/70s graphic design. Condition: Good vintage condition. Complete and highly presentable internally, with strong colour throughout and the full-colour centrespread present. There is general age-related handling, marking and edge wear to the covers, with more pronounced wear, tearing and small areas of loss at the lower outer corner of the rear
